Great Barrier Reef

The Great Barrier Reef is a famous tourist spot in Australia and is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is blessed with breathtaking beauty. It is a remarkable place and an awesome sight to behold. The reef contains an abundance of marine life and comprises of over 3000 individual reef systems and coral cays and literally hundreds of picturesque tropical islands.

Larger  than the Wall of China, the Great Barrier Reef is also one of the Seven Wonders of the natural World. It is the only living thing on earth that is visible on space.

The length of the marine park stretches over 3000km (1800 miles) almost parallel to the Queensland coast, from near the coastal town of Bundaberg, up past the tip of Cape York. The reef, between 15 kilometres and 150 kilometres off shore and around 65 Km wide in some parts, is a gathering of brilliant, vivid coral providing divers with a spectacular view of an underwater experience.

Because of its natural beauty,  the Great Barrier Reef has become one of the world’s most sought after tourist destinations.

The Great Barrier Reef  contains the world’s largest collection of coral reefs, with 400 types of coral, 1,500 species of fish and 4,000 types of mollusk. It also holds great scientific interest as the habitat of species such as the dugong (‘sea cow’) and the large green turtle, which are threatened with extinction.
